ASCA® technical properties
Made of semi-conductor compounds based on organic polymers, ASCA® is composed of fine layers of ink deposited using a coating process designed for thin and flexible films which offers innovative benefits such as flexibility, lightness and many other advantages.
Thanks to its flexibility, ASCA® can easily cope with a certain level of twisting, deformation and vibration. ASCA® can be rolled up at least 50,000 times without any loss of efficiency.
This flexibility also gives it a level of conformability (in terms of constraints) that complies with the applications design’s conformability into which ASCA® is incorporated. Whatever level of ASCA® conformability you are looking for depending on the shape of your application, the performance levels of ASCA® will not be affected.
The performance levels of ASCA® will remain stable even when placed under the excessive and repeated stress of being rolled up.
Tests conducted by our experts guaranteeing resistance over 50,000 cycles on a mandrel 50mm in diameter (i.e. much wider than classic applications).
ASCA® weighs around 450g/m2, i.e. a factor of 30 times less than other technologies.
To better demonstrate its lightness to you, just imagine that an ASCA® film the size of a piece of A4 weighs only 30 grams, as light as 6 sheets of paper of the same format.
ASCA® is able to function at lower levels of light intensity than other technologies. For example, 200 Lux is enough to trigger the ASCA® photovoltaic module. Certain applications only operate when exposed to artificial lighting. This unique property gives ASCA® the advantage of being functional in indoor applications.
Strength tests are conducted by repeated impact simulations. With projectiles launched from different heights, ASCA® is able to demonstrate the scale of its resistance. Whereas rigid solar panels would break under such impact and become completely inoperable, the ASCA® thin films offer greater resistance. Any impact can only affect the area in question and not the integrity of the system, leaving ASCA® functional (proportional to the area remaining intact). The ASCA® SOLUTIONS LAB offers integration systems designed to enhance such resistance.
Thanks to the ability to add to the ASCA® film a protective substrate that meets your constraints, ASCA® can resist intense and repeated crushing forces without performance loss. This may be necessary for certain specific conditions of use dictated by your applications or in order to make ASCA® compatible with certain industrial processes.
Temperature does not impact on ASCA®. For example, an ASCA® module of 10 Wc at 20°C will offer the same power at 35°C.
ASCA® offers higher daily energy production at the same power than the other technologies.
Energy PayBack Time
The ASCA® technology offers significant environmental benefits and a short energy payback time (EPBT). Studies conducted into the EPBT of applications under development draw the conclusion that choosing ASCA® is clearly more beneficial in terms of the results obtained than other previous technologies.
Note: The energy payback time is the ratio between a product’s total energy consumed during its production, transportation, installation and recycling, and the total amount of energy produced annually. For an energy to be truly renewable, it must produce more energy than it consumes during its life cycle.
ASCA® is semi-transparent thanks to its semi-transparent or transparent mesh electrodes and layers so thin that you can see right through them.
The current useful life of a single ASCA® module can change depending on uses conditions (indoor or outdoor), type of barrier film used and its integration mode. This useful life can extend to 20 years.

The functionality of ASCA® can be enhanced by adding specific coatings like glass, plastic, composite, textile, in order to optimise its integration within different applications.
In order to best meet your needs in terms of design, ASCA®, or more accurately the ink inside, can be blue or green. Other colours, such as red or grey, will be available in the near future.
Our standards in terms of width correspond to electrical standards, 5V, 12V, 24V, i.e. the width of a module dictates the voltage and the length dictates the current. Depending on the nature of your project (exposure conditions, location, available surface area and energy requirement), the ASCA® SOLUTIONS LAB offers to conduct a study to precisely establish the required surface area prior to sizing your specific requirements.
