The ASCA® Challenge 2020 – Internet of Things (IoT) held by ARMOR solar power films (ARMOR group) ended with an awards ceremony on Tuesday, February 9, 2021. The objective of the competition was to identify the contestant who could find an innovative solution to replace batteries in IoT devices with ASCA® organic photovoltaic (OPV) film, an energy-harvesting technology. The finalist, AtmoTrack, was awarded business strategy coaching and marketing advice, along with guidance and supervision from ARMOR solar power films’ experts on the development and implementation of the finalized prototype, amongst a variety of other prizes.

The manufacturing company ARMOR announced its partnership with ACPV, a project sponsor focusing on renewable energies. Together, they have designed a retractable solar car cover. The first prototype has been deployed on the Gazelle electric car and may be duplicated on any type of electric vehicle. The cover incorporates modules of the ASCA® organic photovoltaic film used to partly charge the car’s battery.

ARMOR industrializes free-form photovoltaics

In early April, ARMOR announced that it has produced free-form photovoltaics, merging for the first time its fields of complementary expertise, namely full-width modules coating, by the team based in La Chevrolière in France, and their finishing to obtain free-form modules, by the German team which is based in Kitzingen and Nuremberg.

As part of the European project mySMARTLife funded by the European research and innovation program Horizon 2020, ENGIE is setting up a pilot photovoltaic installation at the Nantes Cité des Congrès conference center. This world first, which went into operation on March 1st, 2020, involves fitting ASCA® organic photovoltaic films (OPV) made by the ARMOR company onto an existing building’s sunscreens, with no reinforcements to the existing structure.
